Privacy policy

Short version: we don't run ads, we don't sell data, and the site doesn't set its own tracking cookies. Here's exactly what happens when you use it.

Site analytics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits. It's cookieless: it doesn't set cookies, doesn't use local storage, and doesn't fingerprint your browser. We see totals only, like page views, which pages are popular, the site that referred you, and broad country and device or browser type. We can't identify you from it.

The Cache Weekly email runs on beehiiv. If you sign up, beehiiv stores your email address and which page you signed up from, and it records standard email stats like opens and clicks. The signup form is loaded from beehiiv and may set beehiiv's own cookies. We use your address only to send the newsletter and occasional deadline reminders you asked for. We never sell or share it. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe.

Affiliate links and cookies

Some gear links may be affiliate links. When you click one, you leave our site, and the retailer (or the affiliate network it uses) may set a cookie in your browser so it can credit us if you buy something. Those cookies are set by the retailer or network, not by us, and they're covered by that company's privacy policy. We see only summary reports, such as the number of clicks and sales and the commission. We never get your name, address, or payment details. See our affiliate disclosure.

Maps and outside data

Some pages load content straight from public sources so it stays current. The map loads basemap tiles from the U.S. Geological Survey (and, as a fallback, OpenStreetMap). The avalanche page loads current ratings from avalanche.org's public API. Like any website request, these services see your IP address and browser type. Links to ADF&G, avalanche centers, retailers, and other sites go to pages with their own privacy policies.

Regs search, draw odds, and calendars

Searches and filters on the regs search and draw odds pages run in your browser. Your search terms aren't sent to us. If you subscribe to one of our calendar feeds, your calendar app downloads the file from our site the same way it would any web page. We don't get an email address or account from that.

Hosting

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like every web host, Cloudflare processes basic request data (such as IP address) to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Your choices

Unsubscribe from email at any time with the link at the bottom of every issue.
Ask us to delete your newsletter subscription by writing to hello@chugachcache.com.
Block or clear cookies in your browser. The site works fine without them.

The site is meant for adults and isn't directed at children under 13. If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
