New regulatory year: 2027-2028 harvest tickets and Federal Duck Stamp
The regulatory year starts July 1. Pick up 2027-2028 harvest tickets for the species you'll hunt, and a new Federal Duck Stamp if you hunt waterfowl. Season dates for fall 2027 come from the 2027-2028 regulation booklet; check it, since seasons can change.

How to report your harvest
Nearly every big game harvest ticket and permit comes with a report, and ADF&G wants it whether you killed something, came home empty, or never went. Miss a permit report and you can't get permits the next regulatory year.
- Go to ADF&G's online reporting. Open hunt.alaska.gov reporting and look up your harvest ticket or permit.
- Pick the ticket or permit. Report each harvest ticket or permit separately, including the ones you didn't use.
- Answer the hunt questions. Did you hunt, where, how many days, how you got there, and whether you used a guide or transporter.
- If you took an animal, add the kill date, location, sex, and the measurements the report asks for (for moose, antler spread and brow tines).
- Save the confirmation number. You'll also get an emailed receipt. Keep it until the next season.
What to have on hand
- Your harvest ticket or permit number, and your hunting license.
- The Game Management Unit and subunit you hunted, and the nearest drainage, landmark, or GPS coordinates.
- Dates you hunted and the number of days in the field.
- How you got to the hunt area (airplane, boat, ATV, highway vehicle, on foot, and so on) and any guide or transporter you used.
- For a kill: the date, location, sex, and any antler or horn measurements the report asks for.
- For sheep, bears, wolves, wolverine and lynx: plan the sealing trip too (see Sealing). Sheep hunters bring the harvest report to the sealing appointment.
Prefer paper? Mailing the report card or reporting in person is still allowed. Some permits require in-person reporting, so check yours.
Reporting rules, as ADF&G writes them
General season harvest ticket reports
Complete and return the report within 15 days of taking the bag limit, or within 15 days after the close of the season, even if you did not hunt or did not take an animal.
Source: ADF&G: 2026-2027 Alaska Hunting Regulations, p. 14 (harvest tickets and reports)
Permit reports (drawing, registration, Tier I/II, targeted)
You must complete and return the permit report to ADF&G within the time period specified on the permit. If you fail to report, you will be ineligible for any permits the following regulatory year, and you may be cited.
Deadlines vary by hunt and are printed on the permit. Examples from the 2026-2027 drawing supplement: Unit 14A antlerless moose (successful) in person within 10 days of kill; drawing sheep (successful) within 15 days of kill; drawing bear hunts within 15 days of kill unless the permit says otherwise.

Sealing requirements
Sealing means an ADF&G representative puts a seal on the hide, skull, or horns and records when, where, and how the animal was taken. Sealing is done in person on weekdays, so call your area office before you drive in.
Bears, wolves, wolverine, lynx
In units where sealing is required, wolves, wolverine, lynx, brown bears, and black bears must be sealed within 30 days of the kill, or a lesser time if designated. Mountain lion must be sealed within 10 days of kill.
Source: ADF&G: 2026-2027 Alaska Hunting Regulations, p. 16 (sealing)
Sheep horns
Where sheep horn sealing is required, the horns must be presented for sealing within 30 days of the kill, or a lesser time if designated. The harvest report must be presented at the time of sealing.
Sheep sealing is required in Units 7, 9, 11-16, 19-20 and 24, and for horn-restricted rams in Units 23 and 25-26 (except RS595).
Source: ADF&G: 2026-2027 Alaska Hunting Regulations, p. 16 (sealing)
What has to be sealed
Brown bears (except in subsistence areas); black bears in Units 1-7, 14A, 14C, 15-17 and 20B, plus any untanned black bear hide or skull leaving Alaska or being sold; sheep horns where required; lynx, wolf, wolverine and mountain lion. Bring items unfrozen: bear skull and hide with claws and evidence of sex; furbearer hides; sheep horns on the skull plate. If you can't get to a sealer in time, fill out and sign a temporary sealing form.

Big Southcentral season dates
Fall 2026 season dates from the 2026-2027 booklet, for reference only. Fall 2027 dates will come from the 2027-2028 booklet (regulatory year starting July 1, 2027). Units 13 and 14 have many more hunts; search them in our regs search.
Federal subsistence
Unit 13 federal subsistence moose (FM1301). BLM's Glennallen Field Office issues FM1301 permits in person to federally qualified rural residents.
